Why it matters
An ATM hands out money in exchange for a message, so every failure has a cost that someone notices:
- notes that jam;
- a link that drops between the approval and the dispense;
- a card that is kept.
ATM software and hosts must keep the cash, the cardholder's account and the network in agreement, even when the hardware fails.
