Why it matters
An ISO 8583 message is just bytes; the link around it decides:
- where a message starts and ends;
- what happens when nothing comes back;
- how the two sides know the link is alive.
Most production incidents on host links involve:
- framing errors;
- timeouts;
- retries that create duplicates;
- reversals that never matched.
